It is embarrassing that a body such as the CRTC still exists in the 21st century in what is supposed to be a Western democracy. The whole idea of mandatory carriage stinks like rotten fish and the same goes for being forced to purchase a package instead of à la carte choice of programs. Having to pay for media spin and leftist propaganda instead of actual news by the CBC, CTV, Global and the rest of the consensus media is insulting, especially since I could not bother watching them. Supposedly the mandate of the CRTC is to ensure Canadian content (another thing I resent), yet the station with the most Canadian content (almost 100%) SNN is denied a level playing field with the trash we get like it or not. The CRTC is well past its best before date and needs to be dismantled if we wish not to look like North Cuba.
I think we need something like the CRTC, if only to ensure that licenses are obeyed for things like frequencies. AS an example, you would not want a radio station using a reserved police band.
That being said, I would love it if the government told Bell, Rogers, Shaw and others that you can either be a contend producer, or provider - not both. Make all channels available and leave it up to people to choose which ones they want. Finally, no taxpayer funding for any channel other than perhaps something like CPAC.
We should keep in mind that the CRTC is pretty much all appointees of the current government. Then again, Moore was the minister responsible for much of that time. If we have problems with the CRTC some or much of the wrath should be directed at the current government.
The decision by the CRTC is disappointing, but I for one fully expected it. The CRTC has a mandate to promote the Trudopian ideology of cultural marxism, and tribal frenchness. SNN does not promote the Trudopian view of what Canada is and isn't, therefore this decision was to be expected. What else to expect from a useless cultural police with a useless, bigoted, myopic mandate than more censorship. Disappointing and wrong, but completely expected.
SunTV is advocacy journalism, it was created by Kory for sole purpose of promoting conservatism (he acknowledged this in a speech to the Manning Center before network launched). What we have to do is define "news", because to lump SunTV in with other outlets is problematic, and therefore any arguments which begin with this assumption is inherently flawed. SunTV has an agenda, nobody disputes this approach, and this unique, meaning it is stand alone, needed to be treated as such. Fine, have all the diversity and "voices" you want, just don't try to tell me it is news, because at it's core nothing more than a propaganda arm for a particular political persuasion.
With this decision, SNN *is* on an even playing field. None of the other news networks have mandatory carriage. SNN was trying to get an advantage that the others don't have. CBC Newsworld and CTV Newsnet are not even carried on every cable package. That's the biggest misinformation spin from Sun News of all.
The others have only two advantages that SNN doesn't: they were there first and people actually watch them.

Just another reason not to vote for the liberals in blue.

As I said liberals in blue.
